Eric Adams signed an executive order adopting the vague, heavily politicized “IHRA definition of antisemitism” - a framework that conflates criticism of Israel with hatred of Jews.
This isn’t about protecting Jewish New Yorkers.
It’s about shielding a foreign government from accountability…using the same language of civil rights to criminalize dissent.
The IHRA definition has been rejected by hundreds of Jewish scholars, civil liberties groups, and even the lead author of its original draft. Why? Because it opens the door to labeling student protests, human rights reports, and even basic calls for Palestinian freedom as antisemitic.
This executive order will chill speech. It will silence critics. And it hands dangerous power to those who already abuse the term “antisemitism” to discredit opposition to apartheid.
New York isn’t combating hate.
It’s institutionalizing narrative control.
